Is it too self-referential if I do my NaBloPoMo Roundup today, as part of NaBloPoMo? I hope not.
NaBloPoMo was a little bit harder for me this year than last year, but I didn't end up having to scrape the bottom of the blog-topic barrell like I thought I might. The way I know this is because I didn't write a post about laundry. I had the laundry post on the back burner all month long, knowing I could break it out at any time if I got in a NaBloPoMo pinch. That never happened, but I came close a few times. Seriously, laundry. I might still write that post someday. And then we can all agree that life is boring sometimes, including yours, if you take the time to read my blog post about laundry.
In other NaBloPoMo news:
Everyday life gave me such adventures as when I spent my one free bonus hour of the year being early for church, fasted for the first time in five years, avoided catastrophe while getting my blood drawn, got five pairs of shoes for $30, alienated people who eat stuffing out of a box, and gave up what is possibly the only chance I'll ever get to become a trucker's mistress.
We discussed such controversial topics as whether having a "real job" means you're rolling in the dough (no), if the sun is hateful and at times depressing (yes), whether Tamiflu makes your baby cry all day (it does), and if church could be made less hall-centered by having a younger nursery (OH YEAH).
Flashback Fridays had me paying a phone bill in Syria, accentuating the positive in Moscow, getting married, and enjoying Thanksgiving in foreign countries.
Our trip to Boston and DC was a veritable gold mine of NaBloPoMo content, yielding five road trip posts. There was the exoticness of watching WGBH in Boston, hanging out with a long-lost friend but she's not really long-lost because we all keep up on each other's blogs these days, almost getting a part in a Boston University student film, realizing I am way too cheap to stay in a place like the Marriott, and creating permanent, poo-based associations with Providence, Rhode Island.
Then there were random filler posts, like the one about awkward Palmer family photos, and some great YouTube videos, some Michael Jackson nostalgia, and 11 books that made me cry.
My dear children gave me three posts: Miriam loves preschool, Miriam said a prayer, and Magdalena was a guinea pig.
Last but not least, there were three movie reviews: GI Joe, Lars & the Real Girl, and New Moon.
The most-commented entry was 11 Books that Made Me Cry, with 24 comments. My Thanksgiving edition of Flashback Friday had the fewest with 5 comments.
I hope you enjoyed NaBloPoMo as much as I did, on this blog as well as others. I found a few new blogs through friends who were doing NaBloPoMo, which was fun. It was also fun, and a little weird, to read the blogs of my mom, dad, and younger brother, each of whom started a blog just for NaBloPoMo.
Until next year! And don't hold your breath for a blog post tomorrow.
