Morjes!

Welcome to my blog. I write about fitting in, sticking out, and missing the motherland as a serial foreigner.

Bridges at night

I had an errand to run on the other side of town tonight and I decided to take Sterling with me on the bike. About 2km of the ride was along the Aura River that cuts through the center of town. It was dark and cold, but the river banks and surrounding buildings had Christmas lights, as well as many of the boats moored on the river. The effect was very atmospheric and more than my poor phone camera can handle, I'm afraid. On the way there I was running late, so I enjoyed the beautiful surroundings at speed. But on the way home, I stopped a few times and took pictures (poor phone camera and all). Here are some Turku bridges (and riverside scenes) at night.

Sterling saw the bridge above coming up and demanded that we go on it - "bridge! on it! bridge! on it!" so we crossed over. Then I took this picture. Then we crossed back.

Also, I didn't get a photo of it, but there is an industrial chimney farther down the river that inexplicably has the Fibonacci sequence listed on it in neon numbers.

It's true I get to see a the city in the dark a lot these days, since the "days" are actually mostly "nights" - sunrise tomorrow is at 9.13 and sunset is at 15.28. But at least it's beautiful!
