Piimä smoothie recipe

Piimä smoothie recipe

We make smoothies almost every day and I love them. I've been making smoothies since I was a teenager - even before Zuka Juice (which was before Jamba Juice) was a thing! I've used more or less the same recipe all these years, but one thing I didn't like about it was the added sugar from yogurt. I guess I'm on a sugar-in-yogurt rampage lately.

About two months ago, I engineered a different smoothie recipe that uses piimä (cultured buttermilk) instead of yogurt. It's tangy but bright and healthy. It took a while for the kids to get used to, but I am so much happier without that sickly sweet yogurt in my smoothies. Here is the recipe. Have fun finding cultured buttermilk if you're in the US, I guess!

Blend together:

2 bananas
1.5 cups piimä (cultured buttermilk)
frozen fruit of your choice, about 2-3 cups

If that's too tart, add 1/2 cup of juice for sweetness. Yum!
