It's good to be back in Europe for Eurovision. The last time we were in this region of the world for this event was 2002 when we were in Russia. We've followed Eurovision loosely from time to time since then, but this is the first year in a long time that we've paid real attention. Finland didn't make the finals this year, but there were still plenty of people here watching it and talking about it.
Rumor is that Eurovision was officially broadcast in the US this year - is that true? How long do you think it is before we just go ahead and join the competition? Australia and Israel compete, after all. Plus, Justin Timberlake performed there this year as a kind of exhibition act while they tallied up the votes. Perhaps it's just a matter of time.
Our family favorites: Magda loved Austria's performance:
While the rest of us favored Russia:
Ukraine won. It seemed really political, which Eurovision is not supposed to be.
You can watch the entire finals here (3+ hours; can't say for sure whether you'll regret the time you spent).
Or you can watch about eight minutes with all the highlights - you will almost certainly not regret that. Enjoy!
