Walmart kidnappings on facebook

Over the last six months or so, I've noticed a weird trend on facebook: women with multiple young children sharing dramatic tales of elaborate almost-kidnappings by Latino men at Walmarts in Idaho. I realize this is an oddly specific thing for people to be posting about, but it's practically a genre now. It's bizarre.

Here is a recent representative example (though it's a bit more complex than others I've seen).

What I can't figure out is, for all these many, many attempts and near-misses and almosts (based on the number of posts about them on facebook), have there been NO successes? None? How come I haven't read in the newspaper (or seen posts shared on facebook, if we're being fair) about a corresponding dramatic uptick in actual kidnappings carried out by Latino men at Walmarts in Idaho? Are these kidnappers just that inept?

My sister (who lives in Idaho) and I have been emailing about it and we just can't figure it out. Either these people posting are lying (unlikely) or exaggerating (maybe...) or seriously, these kidnappers ARE just that inept (we can only hope!).

Has anyone else noticed this trend?
