Morjes!

Welcome to my blog. I write about fitting in, sticking out, and missing the motherland as a serial foreigner.

Laskiaispulla

Laskiaispulla

Laskiainen/Shrove Tuesday was yesterday. There was the traditional sledding festival in the six inches of slush on the ground (melted from truly beautiful snow on Monday), and the traditional eating of laskiaispulla:

This is the standard Finnish pulla (sweet bun with cardamom), given a rich whipped cream and almond paste filling. You can also get jam instead of almond paste, and opinions on those two alternatives run DEEP.

I had the almond paste. It was delicious. All three kids had laskiaispulla at school/päiväkoti, too. I am all in favor of these holidays that are celebrated with the eating of delicious foods!
