Heat wave
Compounding the ice cream shortage is the fact that Finland is having a major heat wave right now. We had as many 24C+ (Finland's "hot" cutoff) days by the end of May 2018 as we did for the entirety of 2017. And it has been in the high 20s for most of July.
These temperatures may not seem that hot compared to wherever you are, but in this Finnish heat wave I am seeing the same kind of distinction there is between UAE heat and, say, Egypt heat. The UAE is hotter, temperature-wise, but everywhere has AC so you don't feel it the way you do in Egypt, where temperatures are 5-10 degrees cooler. Finland is Egypt in this scenario: not a lot of AC here!
So how do we keep cool at home? Well, fans, or maybe AC units. First the stores ran out of the good, strong fans. Then they ran out of the weaker fans. Then they ran out of freestanding AC units. One day last week, we checked four different stores and not only were they out of stock for AC units, they were out of backorder stock. One place said the factory in Sweden was completely sold out!
For now, we're sleeping with the fans on full blast and also with literal ice packs in our beds! Also, swimming almost every day. Whatever works.
