Entitled: How Male Privilege Hurts Women by Kate Manne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
3.5 stars (with a 5-star message). I have a hard time with books like this (like Good and Mad: The Revolutionary Power of Women's Anger) that mostly rehash incidents that were prominent on Twitter - yes, I remember being mad about this, actually, because I was there watching it happen. This book starts out with entire chapters written about various Twitter Dumpster Fires and I find that reliving the outrage is not helpful for me.
But! Later chapters about household labor and the "unelectability" of Elizabeth Warren were much more interesting to me!

Life's Too Short by Abby Jimenez
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I've been in a reading slump and while I don't think I'm in the clear yet, I did FINISH this book, which is saying something. This one deals with some heavier life (and death) themes, which raised the stakes and made the lack of Having That One Conversation a little bit more frustrating for me. I think I've liked each book in this series successively less but that's ok!

I Must Betray You by Ruta Sepetys
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I wish with alllllllll of my heart that Ruta Sepetys had been writing books when I was a kid. Her books are always so smart, so vivid, and so filled with heart - and brimming with a strong sense of time and place. Oh well, the next best thing is to read her books as an adult and recommend them to my own kids.

The Hawthorne Legacy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
3.5 stars. A solid, entertaining read and a good follow-up to the first book. This series reminds me a lot of Karen McManus' books but they're a bit lighter - so they'd be perfect for a teenager who is not quite ready to get into swears and sex (on the page or implied).
